Get your butt outside! The Ontario government has PAUSED the Smoke-Free Ontario Act

July 17, 2018

The new Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017, which was scheduled to come into force on July 1, 2018, has been PAUSED by the Government of Ontario. As discussed in our e2r Alert on June 21, 2018, the purpose of this new legislation was to expand on the restrictions found in earlier pieces of legislation which prohibit the use of tobacco and electronic cigarettes in prohibited places to include medical cannabis.

As it currently stands, the existing Smoke-Free Ontario Act and the Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2015 are still in place and continue to prohibit smoking lighted tobacco and e-cigarettes in the workplace.

As further developments take place regarding this legislation, e2r™ will keep you informed and up-to-date! Please contact an e2r™ Advisor for further information.
