Topic: Bill 148 – Proposed Changes to Ontario Employment Legislation Are Now Law

Many of you have been following Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, closely over the past several months as it has moved its way through committee discussions and the provincial legislature. This month, the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs proposed significant amendments to the legislation and effective November 22, 2017 the bill has been passed and will become law.

We go over the various components of the legislation including changes to minimum wage, vacation pay calculation, scheduling of work, sick days, and new or altered leaves of absences that employees will be entitled to.
